behind the scenes: introduction

I just attended an all day social media conference. I had a great time and learned a lot, sitting in the front row with my laptop hooked up to wifi while I tweeted, retweeted, took notes in Word and focused my brown eyes on each amazing speaker, a smile playing on my lips. It's so simple to me because, as a communications specialist, this is part of how I think about communications. I learned new ideas, yes, but the philosophy behind each new strategy is rather familiar ... but I noticed how many things about social media are just plain normal to me while many people were just trying to wrap their mind around it. I realized that sometimes it's nice to just take the time to show people what goes on behind the scenes. This blog at this level doesn't just happen. I know exactly what I'm doing and why and I can explain it. I do that on twitter from time to time, but this is the first time I've done it on the blog.

Now, I know this isn't for everyone. If you just want to enjoy the end product and you don't care about the behind the scenes stuff, then you don't need to read this. But if you're curious, then please read on. Hope you find it fascinating.

behind the scenes: is this blog worth it for me?

... I wrote on the need for branding, the importance of lurking along with participation, the need to curate the info, the way I present information, the need to be a portal as much as a resource and the way readers affect the material you see on the blog
